Keeper of the Realms: Crow’s Revenge
Written by Marcus Alexander
Price: £6.99
Recommended age: 10+
Charlie Keeper, the heroine of Marcus Alexander’s Crow’s Revenge, is not your typical heroine. Scruffy, sulky and fond of stomping, she is probably more representative of several of your closest friends than the usual literary female lead. Who better, then, to lead the reader into a whole new world, the land of Bellania, unsuspected and waiting to be discovered right within her own house. Filled with characters made of trees and stones and shadows, many of whom can’t wait to kill Charlie in their own special way, Bellania is a full and exciting world, just right for children aged 10-plus. The character of Mr Crow in particular is a masterstroke, and Alexander’s artwork lifts this story even further, with a website to follow when the book comes out in a couple of weeks time. This reviewer believes this book, the first of a series, could be huge. Watch this space…
My daughter came running home very excited about this book after an author visit at her school. Anything that fires her up enough to read – and she’s already a third of the way through the book – is in my mind a wonderful thing.
Thanks for your comment, Susan. I interviewed the author recently – look out for it on the website tomorrow. Am glad your daughter is enjoying it, I thought it was great.
